Poets Reading the News
Poets Reading the News is a 501(c)3 literary organization that bridges journalism and poetry. Its mission is to enact poetry’s vital cultural function as a processor for cultural complexity and political change. It is home to a digital publication, print press, and an event series which hosts readings, workshops and performances.
Since launching in September 2016, Poets Reading the News has created a devoted readership and deeply involved literary community. It has published almost one thousand poems and built a monthly circulation of over 10,000 people. Notable contributors include U.S. poet laureate Joy Harjo, Craig Santos Perez, Lauren Camp, Philip Metres, Jane Yolen and Yvonne Daley.
Poets Reading the News is also known for its immersive and unique events, ranging from thematic poetry readings to multidisciplinary performances in Oakland, San Francisco and New Orleans. The organization specializes in both formal and experimental writing workshops. It has organized performances with Sin Adjetivo, Alan Pelaez Lopez, Tova Ricardo, Sarah Kobrinsky, Caitlin Gildrien and Jan Steckel among many others.
